List window

This window gives opportunity to operate found files. Duplicate files are shown here. Also you can obtain some information about group or file quantity and their entire size in the progress bar.

The duplicate file list consists of rows and columns. Rows display information about files. These files are grouped. Each group (beginning from "----- Duplicate File Group -----") contains files which the program considers duplicate. Columns have additional information about files: path to file, name of file, size, type, last modification date, matching, attributes. The Matching column shows (in per cent) how content of group file match content of the first file of the group. The higher this value is, the more files matches. If Matching is equal to 100% then the files are absolutely identical (filename and date do not play a role). Files not matching 100% are displayed with another color.

Column data may be sorted. To do that, one can click a needed column header, and the data will be sorted by ascending or by descending. And besides, the information within a group is sorted first, but groups are sorted after that. To invert a sort order, one can click the sorted column header again.

For some files a preview window may appear (e.g., for pictures), if cursor stands on the file of corresponding format.

You may operate the found files both with context menu and with hot keys or buttons above the list. But context menu gives the richest amount of commands. The buttons above the list duplicates just some of them. To call context menu, right-click on one of files. Double click starts a file, or program associated to it.

Context menu has such commands:

  • Current File -- the commands of this subgroup are applied to the file under cursor only:
    • Run -- starts a file, or associated to it program;
    • Open with -- opens current file with a program chosen by user;
    • Copy to Folder -- copies selected file into folder chosen by user;
    • Move to Folder -- moves selected file into folder chosen by user;
    • Rename -- renames selected file;
    • Reveal Location in Explorer -- opens a folder containing the selected file in Explorer;
    • Properties -- calls the file properties window;
    • Exclude This Folder from Current List -- excludes from the list all files contained in chosen folder or its subfolders. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Exclude Files of This Type from Current List -- excludes from the list all files answering to chosen mask. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Remove Current Group from List -- removes group, containing selected file, from the list. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Delete -- deletes a file from disc or moves it to Recycle Bin according to settings of the Removal window. Clicking on this command or on the Delete button with the Shift key pressed, deletes a file permanently from disc;
    • Permanently Delete -- permanently deletes a file ignoring the Removal window settings;
  • Selected Files -- the commands of this subgroup are for file selecting or for selected file processing:
    • Autoselect -- automatically selects files (e.g., for deletion). Read further about this option below;
    • Toggle All -- selects unchecked files and deselect checked files;
    • Select All -- selects all files in the list;
    • Deselect All -- unchecks all files in the list;
    • Copy Selected Files to Folder -- copies all selected files into folder chosen by user;
    • Move Selected Files to Folder -- moves all selected files into folder chosen by user;
    • Exclude Selected Files from List -- excludes from the list all selected files. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Delete Selected Files -- removes all selected files from disc;
  • List -- the commands of this subgroup have influence on all files in the list:
    • Rescan Files of Current List -- performs scan using files from the list;
    • Find, Find Next -- searches the list for a typed string;
    • Preview -- if checked, shows the preview of a picture;
    • Exclude Folders Checked in the Exclusions Window -- excludes from the list all files contained in checked folders of the Exclusions window and their subfolders. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Exclude Files Checked in the Exclusions Window -- excludes from the list all files answering to masks, checked in the Exclusions window. The files are NOT deleted from disc physically!
    • Remove missing files from list -- if the list has files which are deleted or moved to another location after the last scan (e.g. the list had been saved, but later it was loaded again), then this command will clear them from current list;
    • Clear List -- clear all list.

Automatic selection and removal of duplicates

Autoselection helps user to speed up the process of selecting of duplicate files. It gives a computer the possibility to check files by itself without user's interference. You can process different operations with selected files. For example, all selected files can be removed at once, using the Delete selected files command. The user will be able to answer to the delete confirmation dialogs only (if such options are checked in the Removal window).

These procedures embrace the entire list.

After Autoselect command choice, a window like drawn below will appear for you to set some necessary settings.

In the upper part of window, check paths which must be in a group the autoselection procedure must process. If at least one of the checked here paths is not in, then this group is skipped.

In the lower part of the dialog, check paths which must contain files to be selected. That is if a group has a file with path matching the one of the checked in lower part, then this file will be selected.

In the lower list you must check at least one path or mask. During removal process if a group contains files not selected in the lower list, then they will not be selected.

Paths in the upper list may be edited by user. To change a path, right-click on it. In the appeared dialog box, you may correct chosen path. Edited paths change in the lower list by themselves.

Moreover, during editing you may use wildcards. It is allowed to use symbols ? or * (symbol * may be written in two variants -- * or **). Using of wildcards is very similar to using masks in MS-DOS or Windows.

Symbol ? replaces any single character.

For example, entry D:\Muz?2 satisfies D:\Muz12, D:\Muz22, D:\Muz02, D:\MuzA2, D:\Muz_2. But not D:\Muz, D:\Muz2, D:\Muz11, D:\Muz12\nnn.

Symbol * replaces sequence of any characters (or their absence) within a single folder.

For example, entry D:\Muz*2 satisfies D:\Muz12, D:\Muz1-12, D:\Muz2, D:\MuzA2, D:\Muz_2. But not D:\Muz, D:\Muz\a2, D:\Muz11, D:\Muz1\nnn2.

Double symbol * (**) replaces sequence of any characters (or their absence). It may include a few folders.

For example, entry D:\Muz**2 satisfies D:\Muz12, D:\Muz1-12, D:\Muz2, D:\MuzA2, D:\Muz_2, D:\MuzA\B2, D:\MuzA2\nnn, D:\MuzA\test\M\X2, D:\Muz\xxx\yyy, D:\Muz110. But not D:\Muz, D:\Muz\a21, D:\Muz11, D:\Muz1\nnn20.

Note! Always write file masks in the autoselection window! To select all files from D:\Dupes1, D:\Dupes2, D:\Dupes3 etc., input D:\Dupes?\*.*, but not just D:\Dupes?.
